Jolin, Stambaugh Named Inaugural Athletes of the Week

One of the main goals of mattsportsmedia.com is to shine a light on the athletes that are making an impact in Wyoming Seminary athletics. Each week, I’ll be selecting — with the help of the school —one male and one female athlete who stood out, not just for their stats, but for their leadership, effort, and the way they represent Sem.

The inaugural mattsportsmedia.com’s Athletes of the Week are…

Boys: Louis-David Jolin (Soccer, Junior)

Just a few weeks ago, Louis-David Jolin arrived on the campus of Wyoming Seminary with a commitment to play ice hockey. Fast forward to today, he starts for the reigning district champions and is the perfect addition for Coach Aaron Littzi and the Sem boys soccer team.

But how did he find himself playing at Nesbitt Memorial Stadium?

New co-host of the Sem Sports Spotlight podcast Lucas Parietti ’26 recalled what made Jolin lace up his cleats for the Blue Knights.

“We sat down with him at dinner. He said he’s a hockey player, and he dabbles in fútbol… The next day, they come back and they’re like ‘LD is really good. He’s super quick, he’s fast, he’s got good handling skills.’”

What he showed in practice quickly correlated to gameday for the Blue Knights. In the first game of the season against Mountain View, Jolin brought the physicality and scored the first goal for Sem in the 11th minute.

Starting goalkeeper for Sem, Cash Hanson-Richart ’26, talked about Jolin’s impact — not just on the team — but in the school community as well.

“He’s very aggressive and super quick,” Hanson-Richart said. “I’ve been blessed to have him in my advisory. [He’s] a super nice guy and a pure goalscorer.”

Jolin followed up his impressive debut by netting a hat trick against Wyoming Valley West in Sem’s dominant 5-0 road win. Adding to his commendable first week, Jolin tallied one more goal as the Blue Knights shutout Old Forge 5-0 this past Saturday.

Simply put: Jolin is a matchup nightmare for opposing defenders. Just as life was getting easier for backlines with the departure of Matt Swartz, Jolin’s emergence causes new havoc for oppositions.

Not too shabby for a guy who had little intentions of donning the Blue Knights jersey.

Girls: Ella Stambaugh (Soccer, Junior)

Some people recognize the last name Stambaugh and immediately think of the versatile 6’2″ basketball guard with numerous D1 scholarship offers already on the table.

But while basketball is a year-round commitment for her, she still finds time each fall to lace up her boots and take the pitch.

With first-year head coach Dr. Christopher Gardner at the helm of the Blue Knights, Stambaugh’s steady presence on the attack gives him one less thing to worry about. Her leadership is proving vital for Sem as the girls adjust to life without Avery Luksic ’25 and Clare Griffin ’25.

Gardner didn’t hesitate to praise his junior star’s poise: “Ella has terrific ball control skills and a fine left-footed shot. She is calm in front of goal, which really helps her pick her spots to shoot.”

Stambaugh opened up the 2025 campaign by cashing in on five goals during Sem’s 6-0 rout of Old Forge. Yes, five goals in a single game. That outburst alone could’ve earned her Athlete of the Week honors, but she kept rolling.

In a tight road 7-5 win over the Lakeland Chiefs, Stambaugh slotted home two goals — upping her total to seven early on and securing Sem’s second win on the young season.

Perhaps even the scarier part is that she hasn’t reached her full potential yet. Dr. Gardner believes that Stambaugh’s impact can increase exponentially when she acts as a distributor.

“If she sees the opportunities for assists, her stats will even be higher than they already are,” Gardner said.

Don’t be surprised if Stambaugh finds herself as the female Athlete of the Week once more before the soccer season is over.

Whether she’s netting goals in the fall or ripping the cords in the winter, one thing is certain: the name Stambaugh isn’t going to fade from the headlines anytime soon.
