“Our Standard is the Scoreboard” — Pachucy Brings New Vision to Sem Football

“Our standard is the scoreboard.”

At first glance, it might sound like Wyoming Seminary’s new head football coach George Pachucy only cares about winning.

However, Pachucy uses that phrase to emphasize the process over the outcome — teaching his players that mastering the simple things, in both football and in life, is what leads to true success.

Pachucy joins Sem with a clear focus for his athletes—family comes first. Along with his twenty month old son, Pachucy resides locally with his wife who isn’t too fond of football. Ironically though, it was his wife—an international educator—who inspired Pachucy to look into the vacant coaching position at Sem.

“She was like the amount of opportunities that you have to impact kids… potentially across the world is something you probably shouldn’t turn down,” Pachucy said.

As for his offensive coaching style, Pachucy prefers a small catalog of plays with numerous formations and motions. Defensively, Pachucy looks to call 5-7 different blitzes and heavily get after the opposing quarterback. He used the words of Andy Kotelnicki, Penn State’s offensive coordinator, to describe his system.

“My offense [and defense] is really vanilla ice cream, but then you put it in the blender at Dairy Queen, and everything gets all mixed up,” Pachucy said.

In terms of team goals for this year, Pachucy wants the team to have a winning season. While he would love to go 8-0, he admitted that a 5-3 season would be a strong start to his coaching tenure at Sem.

While Pachucy certainly seems to be prioritizing the long-term goals, he would not describe this period as a rebuild for Sem football.

“It’s not like we’re rebuilding Sem football,” Pachucy said. “I hate that word… we just have to build it up.”

Regardless of sport, Pachucy gave a powerful message to Wyoming Seminary athletes before the 2025-2026 athletic year begins.

“Try to minimize the ‘I wish I had done this’ as much as possible. Go have the experiences while you’re young and work hard,” Pachucy said. “It’s okay to not achieve your goals as long as you don’t sacrifice whatever your standard is.”

Of course, the conversation would not have been complete without mentioning Jayce Decker. Decker has been a vital part of Sem’s athletic department, serving as a student manager for 6 of their teams including football. While Pachucy didn’t coach the Blue Knights with Decker as his manager, he clearly understands the impact that Decker left on the team.

“Jayce, they told me, is irreplaceable,” Pachucy added. “He’s goated. He’s in the hall of fame.”

With that being said, he made sure to add that the team is looking for student managers to “replace” Mr. Decker. Any interested students can reach Coach Pachucy at gpachucy@wyomingseminary.org. He loves meeting new people, so feel free to drop by his office in the SLRC or find him at Nesbitt Stadium during the fall.

Looking ahead to preaseason, Pachucy wants his players to embody what Sem football is all about:

“I want our players to play hard. I want our players to play with respect for the game and the opponent. And I want others to remember they played Sem.”

Pachucy’s Blue Knights kick off their four game road trip when they travel up to Connecticut on September 6th to take on St. Thomas More Academy (2 PM EST).
